A Fore Some Golf Short Story

Earlier this year, Marcia stopped by the shop and said she was interested in getting a set of clubs that were fitted for her. We were glad to help and we eventually settled on a set of Ping irons and hybrids that suited her style perfectly. Additionally, based on my suggestion she opted to sign up for one of our lesson packages to help take her game on to the next level. The early going stages proved to be pretty rough on all parties. At one point, I am pretty sure she wanted strangle us, but we always were able to get her back on track and headed in the right direction. Her swing didn’t need a ton of changes, but some of the bad old habits didn’t want to go away easily. Fact is, it is not unusual for some players to experience an adjustment period while they get used to a new set of clubs. The weights are different, the length may be different than the off the rack set, and the lie is usually improved for the golfer. When we finished her last lesson, Marcia confided in me that she initially had some regrets but now she was really very happy with her new clubs and her new swing. She said she felt like she had a newfound confidence in her swing and was starting to enjoy the game more than she had in the past. She thanked us and went on her way. We hadn’t seen her for a few months, so I assumed she was travelling over the summer. At first I was pleasantly surprised when I noticed she had pulled in to the lot at the shop. But when she began to dig out one of her clubs from the back of her car, I will admit my first thought was along the lines of “uh ooh, what is she up to?” She pulled on the front door and sternly said to me “Do you know what this darn club made me do? Do you know what this 6 iron did?” I had no idea and trembled in fear, I was only able to muster a feeble “I just can’t imagine what that is” thinking some injury was involved or worse. Her reply came with a huge smile “It put the ball directly in the hole on number 12!! My first hole in one. Unbelievable!!!”. After a huge sigh of relief, we both had a big laugh while she recanted her tale of triumph and how sweet the ball flight was coming off of that Ping six iron as it careened its way to glory. Congratulations to Marcia and welcome to the elite hole in one club. Thanks for sharing that story and your huge smile. We are all proud of your great accomplishment. Keep it up and Keep your head down!
